Overview

Violent rebels in northeastern Nigeria have displaced over 2.4 million people, and many have crossed the border into neighboring nations. Those who stay expose themselves to serious human rights abuses, widespread sexual assault, and suicide bombings.
The Brimsol Foundation is putting up much effort to safeguard and house displaced families, offer them life-saving relief, and aid their healing.

What additional issues are families in Nigeria dealing with?

Since the fighting has caused severe food insecurity, families face hunger and malnutrition. Despite all government and humanitarian efforts, millions of people in the Lake Chad Basin region still lack access to food.

The Hunger Situation

The conflict has been the main cause of hunger in northeastern Nigeria for over ten years. Market and agricultural disturbances brought on by ongoing conflict significantly restrict people’s ability to earn a living and force families to flee their homes. It is quite challenging for humanitarian organizations to access residents of areas under armed groups’ control and provide them with the assistance they require.

Overview Of The Situation

The humanitarian situation in the Northeast BAY region

The severity of the crisis and the insurgency’s growth began to impact other regions of Nigeria, such as the Northwest (Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina) and Northcentral (Plateau, Benue, and Taraba) states. There are still 8.1 million people in need of aid, and 2.1 million of them are internally displaced.
Many people still have serious concerns about protection, particularly girls and women living in camps which are more likely to experience sexual violence. The living circumstances of internally displaced individuals are significantly impacted by overcrowding in many of the camps. Nearly all internally displaced individuals experience deplorable living conditions and services, including overcrowding, safety concerns, inadequate WASH facilities, and inadequate food.
