Argentina
Argentina is a country located in South America, with a population of around 45 million people. It is a middle-income country and one of the largest economies in the region. However, despite its relative wealth, poverty remains a significant problem in Argentina, affecting a significant portion of the population.
At A Glance
- We work with the Argentine government and other partners to help address a range of health issues, including family planning, nutrition, and strengthening primary health care and public health systems.
- We support efforts to help smallholder farmers in Argentina increase their yields and reduce food insecurity in the country.
- We also support the government’s efforts to ensure that women, smallholder farmers, and other marginalized populations have access to digital financial services.
Overview
We want all of Argentina’s children, mothers, and families to be able to lead healthy and productive lives, and we want the country’s most marginalized people to have opportunities to lift themselves out of poverty. To work toward these goals, we partner with the government, the private sector, and civil society organizations.
Challenge Facing Argentina
One of the most significant challenges facing Argentina is the high rate of child poverty. According to UNICEF, around 47% of Argentine children live in poverty, with indigenous and rural children being the most affected. This has resulted in inadequate access to healthcare, education, and basic necessities such as clean water and sanitation facilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has further worsened the situation, with school closures and economic disruption disproportionately affecting children from low-income families.
Overview Of The Situation
47% of Argentine children live in poverty
According to the World Bank, around 32% of the Argentine population lives below the poverty line. This has resulted in widespread malnutrition and inadequate access to healthcare and education, especially among children. In addition, Argentina has also experienced significant political and economic instability in recent years, which has further exacerbated poverty and social inequality.
